Things To Do Diep River

Affordable, Convenient, Community Oriented

A quiet suburb with a fair share of residential and commercial buildings. This place suits people of all ages but not amazing for visitors. Diep River is more suited for professionals who will be seeking a remote working place. Not too far from the Cape Town City this place is not too big.

Diep River: Named for the River That Supplied Thatch

Diep River takes its name from the river running through it, which eventually reaches the Rietvlei Reserve. In the 17th century, much of the thatching grass used by the Dutch East India Company came from this stretch. The Southern Railway Line reached Diep River in 1882, and travellers once broke their journey at Rathfelders, a coaching inn on the site where the Eaton Convalescent Home now stands. One of the earliest post offices in the Cape opened here, serving the surrounding Constantia and Tokai farms.

Outdoor Adventures

Diep River sits between the Southern Suburbs railway line and Constantia, giving easy access to Tokai Forest and the Constantia wine route without the traffic of busier neighbouring suburbs.

Food and Dining

A handful of local restaurants cover everyday needs, with Constantia’s wine-estate dining and Plumstead’s wider range both a short drive away.

Family Friendly Activities

Diep River is a quiet, established suburb that’s stayed largely residential since its railway-stop origins, popular with families wanting Southern Suburbs access without the busier main roads.

Nightlife and Culture

Life here is genuinely quiet, Plumstead, Claremont and Wynberg are the nearest options for anything more active.
