Things To Do Grassy Park

The Diverse Community

You will find different people of different cultures in Grassy Park. This community thrives on activities that are outside the suburb itself. In simple terms Grassy Park is a residential area in totality. The origins of being a former farmland still runs in this suburb as there are still farms.

Grassy Park: Once Known as “Koek se Bos”

Grassy Park grew up in the early 1900s on part of the old Montagu’s Gift farm, north of Zeekoevlei, originally known by the local name “Koek se Bos”. By 1920 the settlement had around 2,000 residents, and it was formally proclaimed a local area in 1935. Its first school, opened in 1912 with one teacher and twenty-three learners, was for a time the only place of learning on the Cape Flats.

Outdoor Adventures

Princess Vlei borders the suburb to the west, and Rondevlei Nature Reserve just south is home to the only wild hippopotamus population in greater Cape Town, alongside eland, caracal and a healthy pelican colony.

Food and Dining

Local restaurants and takeaways around Busy Corner cover most daily needs, with Claremont’s wider dining scene a short drive away.

Family Friendly Activities

Grassy Park is a well-established Cape Flats community with a long residential history and strong local transport links via Busy Corner, one of the area’s key taxi and bus interchanges.

Nightlife and Culture

Community life carries most of the calendar here, with Claremont and the wider Southern Suburbs nearby for anything livelier.
