Meadowridge: Cape Town’s Second Garden City
Meadowridge is Cape Town’s second Garden City, planned by Garden Cities and officially opened on 23 March 1955. Its road layout separating pedestrians from vehicles, wide tree-lined verges, and the placement of schools and shops were all deliberate Garden City design principles, still protected today by restrictive title deed conditions that rule out home industries and subdivisions.
Outdoor Adventures
Meadowridge Common, a remnant of the old Bergvliet Farm, preserves one of the most significant patches of Sand Plain Fynbos left on the Cape Peninsula, with over 120 indigenous plant species recorded. Constantia and Kirstenbosch are both a short drive away.

Meadowridge’s local shopping centre covers everyday needs, with Constantia and Claremont a short drive for a wider choice.
Family Friendly Activities
Meadowridge was quite literally designed for family living, wide verges, pedestrian-friendly streets and nearby schools were all part of the original plan, and it still shows.

Community life, sports clubs and neighbourhood associations carry the calendar here rather than nightlife. Claremont covers anything livelier.
