Things To Do Plumstead

Plumstead was developed on the site of an old VOC military camp and was already a growing village by 1823. Its name was brought to the Cape by Henry Batt, who emigrated from Plumstead, England, in 1807. Author Olive Schreiner, one of South Africa’s best-known writers, spent her final years in a house here and died in Plumstead in 1920. Much of the suburb today is filled with homes built in the 1940s and 1950s, giving it a distinctly time-worn, English-village character.

Plumstead has a good spread of small local parks, Lympleigh Road, Waterford, Burnham Road and Churchill Road among them, along with easy access to Constantia’s wine route and Table Mountain trails nearby.
